Those Little Extras Make A Big Difference

Highly successful salespeople take a few extra steps to ensure their travel pays dividends: 

Meet a new person every time you call on an important customer. Network with all the key contacts at each customer. The more people who know you, your company, and your merchandise, the better chance you have of making the sale from a distance. 

Send thank-you notes. The most powerful reminder that you enjoyed your meeting with a customer is a handwritten thank-you note. Write it on the plane back (or as soon as you get back to the office). Carry stamps so you can mail it as soon as you debark. Only about one in 50 salespeople sends thank-you notes. Your customers will greatly appreciate your extra effort.
