Winning Negotiation Tactics

Good negotiators walk out winners, getting the best of the deal. But when you negotiate, make sure your clients feel like winners, too. If not, they may not do business with you again.

Follow these four tactics for successful negotiations.

  • Decide what you want to accomplish. Write down and prioritize your objectives.
  • Consider prospects’ objectives. Figure out where your goals meet. This can be very effective negotiating information.
  • Understand the difference between wants and needs. Needs are set factors – necessary to retain the business. Wants are desirable and negotiable.
  • Seek mutually acceptable agreements. A successful round of negotiations leaves both parties feeling they have achieved something substantial.
